Training |
| The training component for the Communities
Without Borders project commenced on June 26 at the
site of the Container project, Palmers Cross,
Clarendon and continued thereafter at one additional
site, the Dynasty Hotel in Tollgate, Clarendon in
parallel with one of the last courses that was held
at the Container. Training was offered in the
following four courses: Computer Repairs &
Maintenance, Entrepreneurship Skills, Multi-media
skills and Community Multi-media center
Management/Customer Service.
The training initiative was supported by HEART
Trust/NTA, IICD, ICT4D Jamaica and the Container
project. Certification (statements of competence)
via the National Council on Technical and Vocational
training and Development (NCTVET) will be provided
for competencies that are already reflected in the
existing National Qualifications and for persons who
successfully complete the assessments. Assessments
of the students/participants were conducted by HEART
Trust assessors at the end of each course delivery.
Roles and responsibilities of participants included
a commitment to train others in their respective
communities in the disciplines/areas in which they
have been trained.
The out of town participants were accommodated at
the Dynasty Hotel in Tollgate, Clarendon. A total of
40 participants attended the four courses conducted
over a three-week period. An expo will be hosted at
the Container Project at Palmers Cross and the Cross
Primary and Junior High School (opposite the
Container Project) on Friday, July 28 commencing
from 9:00 am and ending at 5:00 p.m. Among other
activities, the expo will showcase the students who
had participated in the recent training courses and
facilitate the awarding of certificates of
participation to those who attended each 5-day
programme.
